AGROFORESTRY

Agroforestry is well suited to Haiti’s rugged terrain and climate. It is a sustainable and traditional form of tropical agriculture that plants trees and food crops together. It may look hodge podge, but it is productive. It has ecological logic in the symbiosis it develops between plants — e.g. the tree that puts nitrogen in the soil that heIps a food crop grow.

We help farmers plant agroforests to sustainably improve the productivity of their steep hillside farms, where soil erosion is a constant threat. The video above shows a hillside farm that was totally bare nine months before..
